In case you were wondering..

1. Where have I been?

Thats a simple and obvious answer. I have not been on this blog. This is acually the first time I have been on this blog since I last posted in October or something. Whoops! I actually have not been away from the whole blogging world though. I have been posting on my DIY/ lifestyle youtube channel: KieraDIY. I will try and share my videos onto this site but if I don't, you know where to find me!

2. What did I get for christmas?

This one is a little random and you are probably not wondering that but if I will tell you anyway!

Hint: The answer is in video form.

Hint: Here is the link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fO_oI6MMhB0

ENJOY!

Comment Below with what you got for Christmas.

Look mom! I made it myself.

\

skirt: urban outfitters shirt: (see below)
"Look, mom!
I made it myself!"

That was a phrase that I adapted as a toddler and still use up to this day
because
as my obsession with DIY projects increase so does that amount of times I use that phrase.

I combined my love of DIYs and fashion
and this shirt just popped out.

All I did was take a pair of my dad's old pants
and an already existing shirt
and traced that shirt on the pants (twice)
to get two pieces of fabric that looked like half of a shirt! (SURPRISE!)
Using my shaky and beginner sewing skills (no one can see it anyway right?)
I sewed the two shirt like fabrics together and added a little pocket.

Next time I will try to make it bigger so that I can get in and out of it in less than five minutes.
Next time I will also ask my dad before cutting up his pants.
He couldn't see the sacrifice his pants were making for the greater good of humanity and all DIYs.

You're Invited: To a Scenic Dinner Party with the Best Banana Bread EVER

My parents had a dinner party at our country house and I was in charge of the table decorations.
This means,
                    of course,
that I took this job very seriously.
I decided to give it an earthy or "one with nature" vibe.
The flowers were from my front lawn and the leave bunches were handpicked by me from a random bush. I was praying throughout the party that a spider would not climb from the leaves onto a diners plate. That would have been TOO earthy.

As the air gets slightly colder I find myself baking more and more. I must say that I do not really enjoy baking, at least in the way that some do, but I do really enjoy eating, and unfortunately those come hand in hand.
Luckily for me I found a balance in the form of banana bread.
Banana bread does not take too long to make or bake and you can make it in large quantities that if frozen will last a long time. This means that you could be eating banana bread from one batch for months.

Luckily for you
I have found the best banana bread recipe to ever walk the face of the internet.
All you have to do to find it is click this button

I made the chocolate chip banana bread for this party and it was DEVOURED
one of the guests wanted to take a loaf home.

The Collared Necklace

Recently I have been on a DIY kick.
My most DIYed thing (if that is even a word) has been collared necklaces.
Collared Necklaces are in style and easy to make but mostly I have been making them for school.
Now, you are probably confused.
How would a collared necklace have anything to do with school?
Well, if you go to a school with a dress code and the dress code is a solid collared shirt you might start to understand.
If you don't, don't worry I will explain it now.
I have run into an issue of finding a solid collared shirt that is not horrendous looking. By horrendous I mean a shirt that a. is not ugly and b. does not look like Lily Pulitzer on a golf trip and c. is comfortable.

I came up with an idea at the end of the summer to take a comfortable solid shirt of some sort and make some collared necklaces and wear those as my school shirts.

It is a really simple design to create.

Materials needed:
Felt
Tacky Glue or Mod Podge and a Hot Glue Gun
Glitter/Denim/Pearl Beads
String
etc.
Instead of attempting to explain how to make these things myself I decided to post the tutorial video that I watched to make it.
LaurDIY makes great and cool DIY videos.
Check her out.
If you make your own collared necklace email me a pic @ brightlightsbrightlife@gmail.com
If you do not want to spend the money on the materials or something like that then email me _> brightlightsbrightlife@gmail.com about buying one from me.

20 questions: My Way

I had an epiphany the other day.
No, it was not the solution of world peace epiphany but it was close to it (sort of)
I realized that  I have had this blog for almost a half of a year and in this half of a year I have not really told you anything about myself. To solve this problem I will be playing the 20 questions thing that is going around every social media site/app.
Luckily for you guys with this version of 20 questions there is no answering or asking involved all you have to do is read.

1. My name is Kiera spelled K-I-E-R-A not K-E-I-R-A. (Keira Knightly ruined it for everyone).

2. I am ALWAYS cold.

Darn it, I am already stuck.

3. I am a freshman in high school.

4. I have always wanted to be a mouse for Halloween.

5.  I used to have a deathly fear/hatred for pickles
Who would blame me? They are cucumbers with warts on them.

6. I like to run for fun.

7. I have been taking mandarin at school for 5 years and know very little.

8. Summer is my favorite time of year

9. Christmas is my favorite holiday and it is not just because of the gifts.

10. I love sweaters. I especially love cashmere sweaters.

11. I plan my christmas list months in advance. (I currently have one going.)

12. I am currently redoing my room. (I have been doing it for 5 years but it is actually happening now)

13. My best subject is English.

14. My worst subjects are languages/ anything that has to do with memorization.

15. I can keep a secret.

16. My pet peeve is when people state really obvious facts. (i.e "it's raining" when it's clearly raining)

17. I am really scared of sharks and lightning

18. I once had to run 2 miles in a lightning storm (I have never run so fast in my life)

19. I correct people's grammar in my head. (If I did it out loud it would be annoying.)

20. I need to eat while I am doing homework (It's just too boring.)

*Phew* that was hard. However, I must admit I had some help from my friend the internet.
